A shared architecture for autonomous access

A group including AWS, CrowdStrike, Google Cloud, Okta, Salesforce and ServiceNow announced the Blueprint Alliance on September 22 to advance an architecture for securing AI agents. The announcement calls for distinct agent identities, accountable human owners, permissions matched to the task and traceable delegation. It also addresses monitoring during execution, containment and the conditions for restoring an agent after intervention.

The implementation work is still ahead

The alliance plans reference integrations and interoperability testing. Its formation should not be interpreted as proof that every participating product already implements a common, working standard. GE Appliances and World Central Kitchen are named as advisors. The initiative’s significance lies in attempting to coordinate identity and control across vendor boundaries, where an agent’s work may span several services.

Translate ownership into a business record

For a manufacturer considering an agent that reads supplier information, the initial question is which business process authorizes that access and who can withdraw it. A professional-services firm should make the same distinction between an employee’s permissions and an agent acting on a client engagement. These examples illustrate governance questions, not deployments attributed to alliance members. An identity inventory can record the agent’s purpose, accountable owner, connected systems and permitted actions before selecting a particular integration.

Test a change of responsibility

Our recommendation is to include an ownership-change exercise in any pilot. If the employee responsible for an agent leaves or changes roles, can the business identify the agent, stop its access and assign a new owner deliberately? Also test whether an investigation can distinguish the employee’s activity from the agent’s. A cross-vendor architecture becomes valuable when those ordinary operational transitions work consistently, not simply when a product can issue another credential.
